Understanding Google Penguin, Google Panda’s Predecessor

Google Penguin, the latest algorithm update from Google, is sweeping through the internet like a deadly plague. Since Google released the update, they have received numerous requests from webmasters asking them what is Google Penguin and how to get along with it. To make matters worse, Google has implemented a second update called Google Panda which basically is just as bad as Penguin.

Google Penguin is considered to be the most significant algorithm change that Google has ever had to deal with. It primarily deals with ranking a website in the natural or organic listings in the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Google Penguin makes it harder for websites to survive in the SERPs because of the way Google rules their algorithm. Basically, Google will only allow websites on the first page of their search results to remain on that top spot in search results. Now you know why webmasters are so upset with Google Penguin and the changes it brought about.

How To Handle Google Penguin?

So how can we get around this? The answer is simple: we can’t! Although the update may have made Google Penguin somewhat better, Google Penguin is still a major update that still tries to get rid of the most successful sites on the internet. So how exactly can a website survive a Google Penguin update?

  1. Change website content. One way would be to completely change your website content to something different than what is currently out there. However, this might not be the best idea if you want to get along with Google Penguin.
  1. Use a link building service. Another way a webmaster can get around the change and still make their website appear in the search engines is by using a link building service to help promote their website. A lot of SEO companies offer link building services these days but one should be careful in picking the right one. Make sure that you don’t get caught in a scam and look for a reputable company, such as the best SEO company in Manchester, to help you.

  1. Link with high-ranking websites. Another aspect of getting around Google Penguin is to create links from high-ranking websites in your niche. For example, if your niche is dog training, then try to create as many backlinks to dog training-related sites as possible. Backlinks are one of the major factors search engines use to rank a website. If you can get more of these links pointing at your site, then you’ll see a sudden rise in your ranking. You can also use social media marketing (SMM) to get even more links pointing at your website.

Why We Shouldn’t Worry

In conclusion, we don’t have much to worry about with the latest Google Penguin update. As mentioned above, only a small number of changes were done which weren’t major. We can, however, create more backlinks to our site while using SMM to get even more links.

We can expect to see more changes coming from Google in the future with regard to Google penguin. But in the meantime, we have to adapt and be better than ever at SEO.
